“The only difference between success and failure is the ability to take action.”
Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell has a rule of thumb about coming to a point of action. He says that any time you face a hard choice, you should have no less than forty percent and no more than seventy percent of the information you need to make that decision.
As we’ve seen, people use excuses to postpone taking action and to procrastinate. Most excuses, however, are poppycock—invalid, rubbish, and rationalized. Excuses are our subconscious protecting us from our fears.
All you are doing is creating a psychological gatekeeper for yourself that is detrimental.
Parkinson’s Law states that work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. Whatever deadline you give yourself, big or small, that’s how long you’ll take to complete the work.
Save your time by giving yourself less time.
